The BELEM Association was established on the basis of a project of the same name. The main aim of the project is to increase the availability of song lyrics and their translations on streaming platforms.
Some of the music industry’s key players have joined forces to facilitate access to translations and original versions of song lyrics in the languages of the European Union.
BELEM aims to build capacity among music publishers, lyricists and record labels to increase access to and monetisation of song lyrics. The association seeks to break down cultural barriers by making lyrics translated by qualified professionals available to all listeners.
BELEM strives to make music in every language accessible to audiences worldwide, whilst ensuring that authors and rights holders (lyricists and publishers) receive fair remuneration for the use of their work.
The BELEM project is an initiative funded by the European Union (EU), which has received €2 million in funding under the ‘Creative Europe’ (CREA) programme. It will generate new sources of revenue for key players in the music industry by promoting European song lyrics and their translations.
